Embedded images versus PDF pages

Embedded extraction returns raster image objects decoded by PDF.js, at their stored pixel dimensions. Results are encoded as PNG; this is not a byte-for-byte copy of the original JPEG or other compressed stream. PDF clipping, rotation, overlays, masks and page layout may change how an image appears on the page.

Whole-page mode renders the final page appearance, including vector graphics and text. It is useful for scanned documents, portfolios and PDFs with no separate raster images. Repeated image objects are saved once per page, while inline image occurrences may appear separately.

Powered by locally hosted Mozilla PDF.js. No external PDF processing service is used.

PDF Image Extractor FAQ

Are PDFs uploaded?

No. PDF parsing, image conversion and ZIP creation run in your browser. Your PDF and password are not sent to the website.

Can I extract original JPEG files without conversion?

This version saves decoded embedded images as PNG. It preserves their embedded pixel dimensions, but does not preserve the original compressed file bytes, embedded metadata or color profile.

Why are no embedded images found?

The document may contain only text and vector graphics, or its image representation may not be supported. Choose whole pages as images to save the visible page instead.

Can I extract images from a scanned PDF?

Usually, when the scan is stored as a readable raster image. You can also render the whole scanned page.

Will every PDF image be extracted?

Not necessarily. Unsupported objects, standalone stencil masks, damaged data or resource limits can prevent extraction. The tool reports skipped objects where possible. Use page rendering for the composed appearance.

Can I use a password-protected PDF?

Yes, if you know the password and the browser reader supports its encryption. The password is used locally and cleared from the input.
