How to crop and compress an image online

  1. Choose an image

Open a JPEG, PNG, WebP or another browser-readable image. Your file stays on your device.

  2. Draw your crop and set its size

Drag the mouse to select a rectangle. Move the target-size slider or enter a KB limit. The compressed preview updates automatically.

  3. Save the cropped copy

Review the crop, its actual size and final dimensions, then save it in JPEG, WebP or PNG format.

Crop JPG, PNG and WebP images to a target file size

Use Image Cropper to save a selected part of a photo, screenshot or graphic. It combines rectangular cropping and file-size compression in one tool, including common targets such as 100 KB, 500 KB and 1 MB.

Input support depends on your browser. JPEG, PNG and WebP are common choices; AVIF, GIF and BMP may also open. RAW, HEIC and SVG are not supported here. Animated images become a single still image. WebP and PNG can keep transparency.

Compression can change quality, colors and dimensions. If the limit cannot be met, the result is clearly marked as above your target. Review the output before sharing it.

Image Cropper FAQ

Are my images uploaded?

No. Image decoding, rectangular cropping, compression and preview creation run locally in your browser.

How do I crop with the mouse?

Press on the image, drag to the opposite corner and release. Dragging in any direction works. Draw another rectangle to replace the selection, or choose Select whole image to reset it. Touch dragging is also supported.

Can I crop without a mouse?

Yes. Enter the left and top positions and the width and height in pixels. These fields define the same rectangle used by the mouse selection.

Can I save a crop under 100 KB?

Set the maximum size to 100 KB. The tool adjusts JPEG or WebP quality and, when allowed, reduces pixel dimensions. The actual result size is shown; it is not padded to an exact byte count.

Does cropping preserve metadata?

No. A new image is encoded from the selected pixels. Original EXIF, GPS, comments and color-profile metadata are not copied. The browser may add encoding information.

Will my original file change?

No. Saving creates a separate cropped copy on your device.
